Surface

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Beijing, Katherine Wong sought out to pursue her love of architecture and design at Carleton University in Ottawa when she was just 18 years old. Her curiosity for world building, creative spaces, and story telling serendipitously led her to pitch an original 2D series to Netflix Canada through an open call. The experience of crafting a narrative story was so fulfilling that it eventually led her to join Atomic Cartoons as a 2D background painter. Merging her love of architectural design and animation, Katherine has worked on countless shows including Mermicorno: Starfall (2025) and The Vindicators (2022). While at Atomic Cartoons, Katherine landed her dream opportunity of directing her own short film when she pitched “Surface” to the Atomic Shorts Program – an incubator designed to encourage internal studio talent to develop and direct their own content. She was chosen as the Atomic Shorts 2024 finalist and led a team of fellow studio artists and peers to produce “Surface”.
