A young Indian woman finds herself alone in a new country, trying to create a home away from home.

Maya Rikhi

Maya Rikhi is an award-winning writer, director, and producer based in Toronto, specializing in drama, comedy, and coming-of-age stories. A recent graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s RTA Media Production program, Maya most recently wrote and directed the award-winning short film, THE G.O.D. and produced several independent shorts, including CANDY SUNRISE and TWO’S A PARTY. Maya also has experience in the camera department on high-budget productions, such as Matt Johnson’s BLACKBERRY. Maya is a previous participant in the WIFT Mentorship Program and was shortlisted for the 2023 Reel Asian Unsung Voices Program. She is currently in post-production for her latest film, I HOPE YOU DON’T, and her debut short, DOLLY, has just entered the 2025 festival cycle.

This year, VAFF FESTIVAL, screening programs in person and virtual will be organized into various series in order to better highlight the diverse content in our festival.
